AI visibility for dental practices
AI visibility is the work of making a practice one of the sources that ChatGPT, Google’s AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini quote when someone asks them a dental question. When we researched the UK market in September 2026 we found no UK dental agency cited at all. The ground is unclaimed.
- Zero UK dental agencies currently cited by ChatGPT for this market
- 30 or 100 AI prompts tracked monthly
- Entity and schema work, not keyword stuffing

The research
What we found when we asked
In September 2026 we asked ChatGPT how to build a website for a dental clinic, a question with real and growing search volume in its index. It cited sources in Turkey, the United States and India. Not one British agency, and not one mention of the GDC rules that make a UK dental website legal.
We ran the same check on “aesthetic clinic website design” and got zero results at all. The pattern holds across UK dental and medical marketing: the AI systems have nothing British to quote, so they quote whatever exists.
That is a gap, and gaps close. The practices and agencies that establish themselves as the cited source over the next year will be very hard to displace afterwards, because these systems reinforce what they already trust.
The difference
Why AI visibility is not just SEO
Search engines rank pages. AI systems synthesise answers and cite sources. Those are different problems.
Ranking rewards relevance and authority. Citation rewards being quotable: a clear definition in the opening sentence, question-phrased headings, one idea per paragraph, specific numbers with dates attached, and structured data that tells the machine what kind of thing it is reading.
It also rewards being a recognised entity. If Google and OpenAI can connect your practice name to a consistent set of facts across the web, they will use you. If your name, address and phone differ across six directories, they will not.
The plan
What the work looks like
Content restructured for citation: definition-first answers, question-phrased H2s and H3s, FAQPage and Service schema, and specific figures rather than vague claims.
Entity work: consistent business information across the web, structured data linking your practice to its clinicians and treatments, and where appropriate a knowledge panel.
Monthly tracking of where your practice appears across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini, with a competitor citation gap analysis showing who is being quoted instead of you and for what.

Feedback
What dentists have said
More new patient enquiries
“Since launching our new website, we've seen a clear increase in new patient enquiries. It looks professional, works brilliantly on mobile and makes booking an appointment incredibly easy.”
Dr James R.Principal DentistFinally, a website that reflects our practice
“Our old website didn't reflect the quality of care we provide. The new site feels modern, welcoming and professional, and we've had fantastic feedback from patients.”
Dr Sarah M.Practice OwnerThey really understand dentistry
“They understood exactly what a dental practice website needs, from showcasing treatments to building patient trust. The entire process was straightforward and the finished website exceeded our expectations.”
Dr David P.Cosmetic DentistFeedback received by the team behind Open Wide Websites on dental websites they have built. Practices often prefer not to be publicly associated with marketing, so testimonials are shown by initials. Originals are held on file.
Compare
Three ways to get a dental website, and what each one actually gives you
There is no single right answer here. A template builder is genuinely the correct choice for some practices. This is the honest version of the comparison rather than the one that always ends with us.
| Template builder | Generalist agency | Open Wide Websites | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical cost | £15 to £40 a month, forever | £2,500 to £8,000 one-off | £1,495 to £5,995 one-off, plus £50 a month |
| GDC compliance | Yours to get right | Usually missed, because there is no reason they would know | Built in, then re-checked every year |
| CQC and complaints wording | Not provided | Only if you ask for it | Standard on every build |
| MHRA rules on advertising Botox | Not provided | Frequently breached without anyone noticing | Flagged and written around |
| A page per treatment | Possible, but you write them | Only if specified and paid for | How every site is structured |
| Booking software integration | Rarely | Charged separately | Dengro, Dentally, Carestream R4 and Software of Excellence, included on Practice and Group |
| Local area pages | No | Extra | Included from Practice upwards |
| Structured to be quoted by AI | No | Rarely | Definition-first answers, FAQPage, Service and LocalBusiness schema on every page |
| Who owns the files | The platform. Stop paying and it goes | Varies, read the contract | You do, including the code |
| Time to live | A weekend, if you do it yourself | Six to twelve weeks is common | Two to four weeks, five for a group |
| Discovery calls | None | Usually two or three | None. Everything in writing |

FAQs
Questions dentists ask us
Does AI visibility actually bring in patients?
It brings in a specific kind of patient: one researching a high-value treatment who asks an AI rather than scrolling search results. For implants, Invisalign and cosmetic work, where patients research heavily before enquiring, it matters a great deal. For routine NHS dentistry it is much less urgent, and we will say so rather than sell you a plan you do not need.
How do you measure it?
We track a defined set of prompts, 30 on the Visibility plan and 100 on Authority, across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini, and report monthly on whether your practice appears, in what context and alongside which competitors.
Is this the same as SEO?
It overlaps but it is not identical. SEO makes a page rank. AI visibility makes a page quotable and makes your practice recognisable as an entity. Both plans include conventional SEO because the two reinforce each other.
Can a small practice compete on this?
More easily than on conventional SEO, because almost nobody in UK dentistry is doing it. Authority is currently cheap to acquire in this space in a way it has not been in search for fifteen years.
Which plan do we need?
Visibility at £497 covers 30 prompts and suits a single practice. Authority at £1,997 covers 100, adds entity and knowledge panel work, monthly gap analysis and digital PR, and suits groups or practices competing hard on high-value treatments.
What is SEO for dentists?
SEO for dentists is the work of making a practice appear when local patients search for the treatments it provides. In practice it has three parts: the local map pack, which is driven by your Google Business Profile rather than your website; organic results for treatment searches such as “dental implants cost”, which are won with a page per treatment; and increasingly whether ChatGPT and Google’s AI Overviews name you when someone asks them for a dentist.
What is the 80/20 rule in marketing a practice?
The general idea is that a small share of your effort produces most of your result. In dental marketing it holds unusually well: for most practices a handful of high-value treatment pages, implants, Invisalign, composite bonding, plus a properly maintained Google Business Profile, produce the large majority of new private enquiries. That is why we build a page per treatment rather than one services page, and why the Google Business Profile work sits inside every plan.
How long does dental SEO take to work?
Local pack movement can happen within weeks if your Google Business Profile has been neglected, because those fixes are quick. Organic rankings for treatment terms typically take three to six months. Competitive terms in dense markets such as Westminster, where we counted 617 practices within four miles, take longer. Anyone promising faster is describing a different outcome from the one you want.
How much does SEO cost for a dental practice in the UK?
Our Visibility plan is £497 a month for 30 tracked keywords and AI prompts, and Authority is £1,997 a month for 100. Across the wider UK market, small-business SEO retainers commonly run from around £500 to £2,000 a month, with agency retainers for competitive sectors higher again. Both of ours run on 30 days’ notice with no minimum term.
